Infertility: Our TTC story

The topic of infertility is often not talked about.  It’s something a lot of women are dealing with alone.  Until now I have never really opened up on social media about my personal struggles with infertility or our miscarriage. I hope that me opening up will help someone else know that they are not alone.

Lets take it back to April 2015.  Justin and I had been married almost 3 years and we were ready to start a family!  Any young couple would think this is an easy thing to do, right? Wrong, and any one that has had trouble TTC (trying to conceive) knows it's a very trying and stressful journey.  After a couple months of trying I started tracking my ovulation. A few months of that and some perfect timing without anything happening, I decided I should reach out to my doctor for them to run some tests.  February 2016 rolls around and I made the appointment for the next month and as you would have it days later, I FINALLY saw 2 pink lines on a pregnancy test.
my fading & positive tests
Our excitement quickly turned to sadness when I realized I was having what doctors call a Chemical Pregnancy, because my tests began fading and I got my period.

The day of my doctors appointment (March 2016) came and the test results showed that my tubes were clear, however my egg quality was diminishing sooner than it should be for someone my age, which would make it harder to conceive on our own, if at all.
My HSG test
I was sad, it was sounding like we might have to try a different route to have a baby per the doctors suggestions.  I accepted that we will probably have to try a IUI (intrauterine insemination) cycle.

Well low and behold it was that same month that I did in fact get pregnant with our son Logan all on our own.  I found out I was pregnant on April 8, 2016.

9 week ultrasound with Logan
We were cautiously excited as we were afraid it was too good to be true.  I had a scare at 9 weeks where I found myself bleeding and had everything checked out and it was ok thankfully. The rest of the pregnancy went smoothly and our son was born 13 days overdue on 1/1/17.  (more of his birth story to come)

Fast forward to May 2018, our son was 16 months old and we wanted to give him a sibling!  I was fully expecting our TTC journey to be a long one again.  Boy was I wrong, we got pregnant that first month we tried.  We were shocked and excited, but of course a little cautious.
The positive test with the shirt we used to announce to our families
7 week ultrasound

I had a ultrasound at around 7w1d and we heard the heartbeat and were feeling good about things.  The next week we went on a family vacation to VA Beach.  A few days into the trip I began bleeding, it was then that I just knew things weren't good.  I went to the doctors the following Monday and it was confirmed I had a miscarriage.  We were heartbroken.  No one deserves to go through this.  It still hurts to think about.  I had multiple blood draws to confirm I was no longer pregnant in the month to follow.  The next month I was hopeful to be pregnant again, and I decided to take a test and I actually got a positive test!  However my anxiety got the best of me and I tested every day and noticed my tests went from dark to light and it was decided this wasn't a viable pregnancy once again.
a variety of different brands with positive results

We continued to try for a few months, I made a few changes to my diet, took some new supplements and that same month we found ourselves pregnant once again!  It was days before Christmas, I was so stressed this was going to end bad and put a damper on our holiday that year, but each day passed and the tests got darker and things kept going well.

pregnancy test progression, yes I tested daily (common for anyone struggling with infertility)
7 week ultrasound with Rylee

The doctors put me on a progesterone medication to help support the pregnancy in case that was my issue with the previous losses. The pregnancy went well overall and our Daughter Rylee was born 9/7/19! (birth story coming for her someday as well)

Overall our journey isn't nearly as LONG and devastating as some, but anyone that has ever dealt with any of this knows its an emotional roller-coaster and mentally exhausting. Some couples have years of infertility struggles and end up needing help from doctors or drugs to get pregnant, and some aren’t able to get pregnant. Others experience multiple losses, some further along, some full term, some at birth, and NO ONE should ever have to go through that. EVER. We have deiced we are complete with our 2 perfect little kiddos and wont be having any more babies.

Thank you for sticking around to read till the end.  Let me know what you would like to see from me in terms of content.

Hello and welcome! It’s been a very, very long time!

I think I should do a little introduction since it’s been 5+ years since my last post. Whoops.  My name is Kristina.  I am married to my best friend Justin.  We have been Married 7 years, and together for 14!  We have a 3 year old son, named Logan and a 4 month old daughter, named Rylee!  I am full time working mama and a photographer on the side!  I enjoy coffee, make up, watching YouTube vloggers, spending time with my family, and getting out and about with them!

If you take a look back any my old posts you’ll notice I had a passion for DIY and home decor.  While I still enjoy those things, it’s just much harder to find the time to do it these days.  I don’t know where this blogging thing will take me, but I’m going to try to make it into something and post when I have something worthy of talking to you all about!

Hope you stick around!

Kristina

My next victim in the house will be.....

The main bathroom.  I love my bathroom as it is, however I think it's missing something.  I just need to convince my husband that this will be a simple project and it will look much better in the end.  Here's to hoping right!!!

This is my inspiration.  However I think I would put the hooks for the towel's behind my door.  I will also keep the color I have painted in the bathroom now for the top part that is not covered by the boards.

Here is my bathroom as it is now.

Tell me what you think?  Should I go ahead and do it?

KITCHEN PLANS

We went ahead and decided on our kitchen flooring.  I fell in LOVE with the cork floor look when Young House Love did it in their second house's kitchen.

So after finding a cheaper alternative we went with the TraffficMASTER Allure Cork in the Dark color option.  (These should be in around the 14th!!!!)

We are going to be laying it right over our current flooring that we have in there, so it will make for an easier installation.

Because we are just covering that UGLY old floor up I am going to do my painting of the kitchen cabinets before we install the new floor.

So I will be painting those white, then I will be installing some new hardware.  I also found a cheaper alternative for those online at Home Depot.  They are stainless steel, but they are hollow.  If anyone has experience with these and would like to share as I am a little undecided.  The reviews said you cant even tell they are hollow once they are attached to the cabinets.

Then eventually I would like to paint our counter tops with one of those rustoleum counter top paint kits.

If anyone has experience with this kit, please comment below and tell me what you think!

I cant wait for this all to be done, and for it to all come together.

Anyone else making some changes in the kitchen?

It's been too long....

Hello, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! It has been some time since I last posted, and to be honest I haven't been doing much house stuff/DIY.  I do plan on getting to work on the kitchen cabinets this winter, so more on that another time!!

What I have been doing A LOT as of lately is photo shoots for people.  I started a facebook page for my photography, and it has been getting a lot of attention.  I have pretty much had a shoot or two every week since I started the page.  If you are interested in checking it out just search Kristina Perry Photography on facebook.

I personally feel that I have improved a bunch since I began shooting over the summer.  I am completely self taught at this point, and I know I have a whole lot more to learn, and I am looking forward to it.

Here are some of the most recent shoots I have done. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.  I don't mind constructive criticism, as it will only help me improve some more!

Thank you and I hope you all have a awesome Thanksgiving!!

{DIY} Cork Message Board

Hello everyone, I'm back with another little update on the office! I made my own cute little message center/cork board!  I found some inspiration from another blog I follow and LOVE.   Its a Pretty Prins Life. She always has the cutest little DIY projects and I love her decor taste.

Anyways I did mine a little different.  I bought a 4 pack of the dark colored cork squares from Michael's. They were under $10 with a coupon.

Once I got home I began taping the cork board up with some frog tape in the pattern I wanted.

After I was done taping I took some metallic gold acrylic paint I had around the house and painted the exposed cork with a sponge brush.

Finally once I was done painting I peeled the tape off.

Here's what I was left with

Of course I couldn't wait to go hang it up in the office!!

I love it!!

Oh yea....we went to IKEA a couple weekends ago and here's what I bought:

Desk

Shelf (holds all our DVDs and husbands video games)

Bunch of white frames!!

Overall i would say it was a successful trip, I could have definitely bought more but my wallet and car space would not allow it.

Has anyone else made their own message boards/cork boards?  Anyone else have a love for IKEA!?!

DIY Lengthened Curtains

A few weeks ago I added a link to the wonderful Wife in progress blog  for her "Show off Thursday's" link party.  I linked my 1 year later transformation of our living room, and come to find out it was actually the most viewed link-up on her site that month.  Yay me!!

If you haven't checked out Jenna's blog yet you really should.  Her kitchen update is AMAZING.  It is truly an inspiration for my kitchen.  Ohhh someday, hopefully this winter I can finallllly tackle that project!

I did get around to lengthening my curtains for the office.  I learned that I have a love hate relationship for my sewing machine though, those things are so tricky.

...and of course here is a before and after of them short to long....

(the colors are off as I took the pictures at different times of the day)
It was really a simple process.  All I did was purchase an extra curtain panel.  Then cut about 4 inches worth off the bottom and top of the new panel and sewed them right to the bottoms of the 2 panels I already had.

I think they look much better and I cant wait to finally get a desk and some art up on the walls.

Next weekend is our 1 year wedding anniversary and all I asked the hubby for was a trip to IKEA!!!  So with that said we are hitting up ikea in Canada (closest one to us) on Saturday and I CAN NOT WAIT.  I have a list ready to go with all the goodies I want to buy!

Any one else out there ever have to lengthen your curtains?  How about sewing, any one else have an argument with their sewing machines?

Office Progress

Over the weekend the husband and I decided to tackle the office.  We began by painting the room.  We went with Gentle Rain by Behr.  Its a soft gray, almost looks blue in some lights.  We didn't care too much about the carpet as we were going to rip it out afterwards, so we didn't put any drop cloths down to protect it.
(Sorry about the cell phone pictures, my 50 mm lens is stuck on my camera so I cant switch out lenses at the moment. So if anyone knows how to remove a stuck lens, please let me know!)

After the paint started to dry we started to rip out the gross carpet....

....and look what we found!!!!

These babies are in AMAZING shape.

I went out and bought some curtains for the room, and I am having a hard time deciding if I really like them.  I already know they are too short, so I have been thinking about buying one more panel and lengthening them by sewing in a piece to each side.  Then I could used the extra fabric for pillows or some other DIY project.  I also have to put them higher and wider then they are now.  Then I think I might like the look a little better!!

Next up for this room....
  • New Desk
  • Art/decor
  • Area rug
  • New door
  • Paint Closet doors
  • New Shelf/storage

What do you think?  Have any of you done any work to your home office's lately, or any room in the house for that matter?

Home Office Plans

It's funny to think a year ago I was pinning away on Pinterest last minute ideas for my wedding, and today I am pinning inspiration for my home office!  Time sure does fly when your having fun or well.....when you get old.

If any of you follow me on Pinterest you may have noticed the excessive pinning of home office decor/design.  My husband and I have finally shoved things in the closet cleaned the room we will call our office.  It will remain the office until we someday decide to have a little one, and turn it into a nursery.

We havent really done anything to the room yet besides clear most of it out because we just bought a new desktop computer and needed to make room for it.

This is what we are working with, as you can see it is fairly small.

Anyway here are some of the plans I have for the room.

I love the idea of having a "inspiration board" maybe above the desk or next to it!

I really like the shelving above the desk/computer with the extra empty desk area on the other side!

Great for storing documents and other little things!  I just wish we had an IKEA closer to us!!

I am really liking the gold and white and another color for accent, but I am not sure if my husband will let me get away with pink, maybe we can do something a little more manly like blue or green for him!!

We need to get some paint up on the walls and take down the current sports border that we inherited from the previous owners!  Then we can rip out the carpet and see the state of the hardwoods underneath, here's to hoping they are in good condition!!!

This is going to be our next little project once the weather gets a bit cooler, so come on fall I am ready for you!
